# Trust Client Auto-Selection - Verification Checklist

## Issue Resolved
✅ **"The client id field is required"** error when using referral links
✅ Auto-selection of client when client_id is passed via query parameter

## What Was Changed

### Backend (LawyerController.php)
- Updated `trustsCreate()` method to accept and validate client_id from query parameter
- Added authorization check to ensure lawyer owns the client
- Passes `$preSelectedClient` variable to view

### Frontend (lawyer/trusts/create.blade.php)
- Modified client selection section to conditionally render:
  - Hidden input + read-only display when client is pre-selected
  - Dropdown selector when no client is pre-selected
- Added visual indicator (green checkmark) for pre-selected client

## Testing Scenarios

### Scenario 1: Referral Link with Valid Client
**URL:** `http://yoursite.com/lawyer/trusts/create?client_id=5`

**Expected Behavior:**
- ✅ Client name displays in read-only field
- ✅ Green checkmark icon visible
- ✅ Form submits without "client_id required" error
- ✅ Trust created successfully

**Verification:**
1. Navigate to the referral link
2. Check if client name appears
3. Scroll down and click "Next: Trust Information"
4. Verify no validation error for client_id

### Scenario 2: Direct Access (No Client Parameter)
**URL:** `http://yoursite.com/lawyer/trusts/create`

**Expected Behavior:**
- ✅ Dropdown selector shows all available clients
- ✅ Requires manual selection
- ✅ Form submits when a client is selected

**Verification:**
1. Navigate to the form
2. Verify dropdown is visible
3. Select a client
4. Submit form successfully

### Scenario 3: Invalid Client ID
**URL:** `http://yoursite.com/lawyer/trusts/create?client_id=999999`

**Expected Behavior:**
- ✅ 403 Unauthorized error (if lawyer doesn't own client)
- ✅ Dropdown appears if client doesn't exist

This automatically selects client ID 42 in the form, so the lawyer doesn't need to manually select it.

### For Clients Following Referral Links
- No action needed, client is automatically selected
- Just fill out the rest of the form
- Click "Next" to proceed
