# Formal Trust Document Implementation Guide

## Overview
A new **Formal Trust Document** feature has been created that generates professional legal-format trust documents, similar to the formal Will document already in the system.

## What Was Created

### 1. New View File
**Location:** `resources/views/admin/trusts/formal-document.blade.php`

This is a printable formal trust document that displays trust information in a professional legal format including:
- Trust preamble and declaration
- Trust details and specifications
- Appointment of trustees and administrators
- Beneficiaries listing
- Trust assets and property
- Allowances and periodic distributions
- Special gifts and charitable donations
- Additional instructions and provisions
- Governing law and jurisdiction
- Signature section
- Lawyer attestation with digital signature

### 2. New Route
**Location:** `routes/web.php` (Admin routes)

```php
Route::get('/trusts/{trust}/formal-document', [TrustController::class, 'formalDocument'])->name('admin.trusts.formal-document');
```

This route is accessible at: `http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/trusts/{trust_id}/formal-document`

### 3. New Controller Method
**Location:** `app/Http/Controllers/TrustController.php`

```php
public function formalDocument(Trust $trust)
{
    $trust->load(['client', 'settlor', 'trustees', 'beneficiaries', 'assets', 'allowances', 'administratorAllowances', 'guardianAllowances', 'gifts', 'assignedLawyer']);
    return view('admin.trusts.formal-document', compact('trust'));
}
```

### 4. Updated Admin Trust View
**Location:** `resources/views/admin/trusts/view.blade.php`

Added a button to view the formal document:
- Label: "View Formal Document"
- Icon: PDF icon
- Link: Points to the new formal-document route

## How It Works

### Usage Flow
1. Admin navigates to trust details page (e.g., `/admin/trusts/206/view`)
2. Clicks the "View Formal Document" button
3. Browser displays the trust in formal legal document format
4. User can print the document using the "Print Document" button

### Features

#### Document Sections
1. **Header** - Document title, trust code, and generation date
2. **Preamble** - Legal statement with settlor details
3. **Trust Details** - Name, code, type, creation date, lifetime terms

- Professional layout suitable for legal use

### Data Source
The formal document pulls data from:
- `Trust` model - Basic trust information
- `TrustTrustee` model - Trustee appointments
- `TrustBeneficiary` model - Beneficiaries
- `TrustAsset` model - Trust assets
- `TrustAllowance` model - Beneficiary allowances
- `TrustAdministratorAllowance` model - Trustee allowances
- `TrustGuardianAllowance` model - Guardian allowances
- `TrustGift` model - Special gifts
- `User` model (assigned_lawyer) - Lawyer details

### Database Requirements
Ensure the following database tables have data populated:
- `trusts` - Main trust records
- `trust_trustees` - Trustee information
- `trust_beneficiaries` - Beneficiary information
- `trust_assets` - Asset details
- `trust_allowances` - Allowance records
- `trust_administrator_allowances` - Trustee fees
- `trust_guardian_allowances` - Guardian allowances
- `trust_gifts` - Special gifts and donations

## Accessing the Document

### Admin Access
```
GET /admin/trusts/{trust_id}/formal-document
```

Example: `http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/trusts/206/formal-document`

### From Existing Trust View
1. Go to `/admin/trusts/{trust_id}/view`
2. Click "View Formal Document" button
3. Formal document opens in a new format

## Formatting Details

### Styling
- Professional legal document style
- Proper page sizing (8.5" x 11")
- Left borders for section titles
- Table-based layout for data
- Print-optimized CSS

### Typography
- Font: Arial/Helvetica
- Main content: 12pt
- Headers: 14pt bold uppercase
- Table content: 11pt
- Labels: Bold for emphasis

### Page Layout
- Margins: 1 inch on all sides
- Print layout optimized
- Page breaks for multi-page documents
- Proper spacing between sections

## Customization Options

### To Modify the Document Format:
1. Edit `resources/views/admin/trusts/formal-document.blade.php`
2. Modify CSS in the `<style>` section
3. Adjust section layout in the HTML template
4. Update field mappings as needed

### To Add New Sections:
1. Create a new `<div class="section">` block
2. Add appropriate title in `<div class="section-title">`
3. Add content using `@if` conditions to check for data
4. Update the controller method if new relationships are needed

### To Change Data Display:
1. Locate the section in the view
2. Modify the Blade template syntax
3. Adjust the controller method to load additional relationships if needed

## Example Usage

### For Trust #206 (DEXTRA TECHNOLOGIES):
```
http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/trusts/206/formal-document
```

This generates a formal legal document with:
- Settlor: DEXTRA TECHNOLOGIES
- Trust details: All populated fields from the database
- All beneficiaries, trustees, assets, and allowances
- Professional legal formatting
- Print-ready output

## Important Notes

1. **Data Completeness**: The document displays only data that exists in the database. Empty sections show "Not specified" or "Not yet appointed"
2. **Print Quality**: Best printed at 100% zoom for proper legal document formatting
3. **Digital Signature**: The lawyer attestation section includes placeholders for digital signature implementation
4. **Existing Format Unchanged**: The existing tabbed trust view (`/admin/trusts/{trust}/view`) remains unchanged

## Future Enhancements

Possible improvements:
1. PDF generation and download
2. Email delivery of formal documents
3. Digital signature integration
4. Multiple document format templates
5. Document versioning and archive
6. Lawyer approval workflow

## Support

For questions or issues:
1. Check that all trust data is properly populated in the database
2. Verify that relationships are loaded in the controller method
3. Review the formal-document.blade.php file for any Blade syntax issues
4. Check browser console for JavaScript errors
5. Ensure CSS is properly applied using browser developer tools
